Becoming a member of a bank sampah has been a meaningful
experience that changed the way I view waste and my daily habits. Before
joining, I often thought of waste as something useless that only needed to be
thrown away. However, by becoming a nasabah bank sampah, I learned that
waste can have value if it is managed properly and responsibly.
I save my waste at the Bank Sampah Sawo Kecik, which is located in the Community Hall of RW 63, Candi Gebang Permai Housing Complex, Sleman, Yogyakarta. Established in 2014, this waste bank was later officially named the Sawo Kecik, carrying the motto “sorted waste into blessings.”
As a member, I participated in saving waste at least two times. In the
first saving activity, I collected several types of household waste, including plastic
bottles, cardboard, putihan, HD, anda BDA, with a total weight of 2.3 kilograms.
After the waste was weighed and recorded by the bank sampah officer, I received
3,050 rupiah, which was added to my waste savings account. Although the amount
was not very large, the experience itself was rewarding because it showed that
small actions can still contribute to environmental sustainability.
The second saving activity was carried out on where I submitted plastic
bottles and cardboard weighing 1,9 kilograms. From this deposit, I obtained 1,500
rupiah. Through this process, I became better in sorting waste at home and more
aware of the types of waste that can be recycled.
Overall, becoming a nasabah bank sampah has taught me the
importance of environmental responsibility, consistency, and community
participation. The activity of saving waste not only helps reduce the amount of
waste sent to landfills, but also encourages people to adopt a cleaner and more
sustainable lifestyle. This experience motivated me to continue participating
in waste management efforts and to invite others to be more conscious of how
they handle waste in their daily lives.
